Spiced Chocolate Smoothie

Update: This was one of the most popular recipes from my previous site, Mel’s Food Blog.  I’ve re-tested and re-shot it and it stands as is.  Try a bit less milk and frozen banana to make this into a smoothie bowl.

I love smoothies for breakfast – they’re quick, easy, and can be packed full of nutrition and flavour.  They are, however, not as much fun in the winter.  A cold breakfast on a cold morning usually doesn’t do it for me.  Especially when the sun doesn’t show its face until 8 am (if at all).

This smoothie is the perfect combination of spicy and sweet.  It has just enough heat to make a cold breakfast on a dark morning a good thing.  It’s great for breakfast on the go.  Also, who doesn’t love chocolate for breakfast?  Be sure to run the blender a little longer than usual to ensure a smooth texture.

Spiced Chocolate Smoothie

Naturally sweetened with banana, this smoothie is high in fibre and protein, making it great for breakfast on the go.  Cinnamon, nutmeg, and cayenne bring a warming quality to the chocolate flavour.
